Fed: Labor to seek meeting with Qantas over job security
The federal Labor Party will seek a meeting with Qantas to express its concern overplans to make a quarter of its workforce casual.
Qantas chief GEOFF DIXON has announced the airline will increase the proportion ofcasual and contract employees to 25 per cent, sparking outrage from unions.
Now Opposition transport spokesman MARTIN FERGUSON has called on Qantas to work withthe unions to meet challenges facing the aviation industry.
Mr FERGUSON says Labor does not support the casualisation of the Australian workforce.
He's referred to its detrimental impact on relationships, families and people's abilityto participate in their communities.
Mr FERGUSON says Labor wants Qantas to deal with its challenges without using massivejob cuts and casualisation.
The unions say they'll refrain from any industrial action until after a meeting withMr DIXON on Tuesday.
