Qld: Gold Coast Prime local news axed
According to the locally produced Prime Television, Gold Coast residents are more interested
in Sydney-based news and current affairs than local news.
Around 20 reporters, cameramen and production staff of the long-running Gold Coast
produced Prime local news were sacked today.
From Monday the station will screen Seven News from Sydney at 6pm (AEST) followed by
the Sydney edition of the Today Tonight current affairs program.
Prime Television's Gold Coast manager MAUREEN WALTERS says the revised news and current
affairs lineup is in response to feedback from the city's growing and changing consumer
base.
Ms WALTERS says more and more people have moved to the Gold Coast from other parts
of the country and want to keep in touch with what's happening on a national level.
