FED:Homelessness falls off Gillard radar

There are concerns homelessness has fallen off the Gillard government's radar .. with
welfare groups questioning its commitment to the cause.

Labor .. under previous prime minister KEVIN RUDD .. outlined an ambitious 800 million
dollar plan to halve the number of homeless Australians by 2020.

The peak body working to prevent homelessness says rates have been on the rise .. and
the government is not on track to meet its target.

Homelessness Australia CEO NICOLE LAWDER says it was certainly a priority for Mr RUDD
.. but we're yet to see that focus from the Gillard government.

A government briefing shows just 23 hundred .. of the 50 thousand new homes promised
by 2014 .. had been built by September 2010.
