NT: Northern Territory leader Stone quits

DARWIN, Feb 8 AAP - Northern Territory Chief Minister Shane Stone today announced his
resignation, citing his failure to win support for territory statehood as a reason for his
departure.

He said Country Liberal Party colleagues had been snapping at his heels for some time, and
his heart was no longer in the job.

Country Liberal Party MPs will meet later today to choose a successor for Mr Stone, an MP
for nine years and chief minister since 1995.
